THE L4L Team

Lights 4 Lives, sponsored by the Stratham Volunteer Fire Department Association (SVFDA), is an annual fundraiser that supports a local family, charity or organization in need in Stratham, NH.
We have gone from a small Boy Scout project to a community-wide event. Through a home lighting contest, raffles, parades, bonfires, and open house events, we have been able to bring our community together to help so many people. We have raised awareness of many childhood diseases as well as the financial needs and roles of several critical organizations in Stratham. Take a look back at our L4L Recipients over the last 10 years.

THE HISTORY

The Lights 4 Lives project was started 10 years ago by Stratham Troop 185 Boy Scout Nick Denton. Nick was brainstorming ideas with his dad for a community service project to fulfill. They were driving around the town at Christmas time and Nick thought of having a contest where residents could enter their decorated home into a contest for best lit home in exchange for a charitable donation. Nick's dad, (then Lt.) Chief Jeff Denton of the Stratham Volunteer Fire Department  (SVFD), asked for the Association's support and from this was born Lights 4 Lives.

.

The first year began with a zero budget and only three weeks to complete the project. There was also the challenge of finding a charity with whom to partner. Nick, together with his family, chose Seacoast Family Promise (SFP), a local volunteer organization that provides a safe place for families to turn for immediate food, shelter, and social services. SFP was extremely grateful for the support and worked with Lights 4  Lives to promote the project. In this short amount of time, L4L manged to create and print flyers. They also enlisted the help and support of the Town Recreation Department, the Wiggin Memorial Library, the Stratham Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the elementary school and Troop 185. Although the turnout was small, they were extremely proud and grateful for the money they raised for SFP that first year.

Lights 4 Lives has slowly grown each year and the hope is that the project will continue to gain recognition and become a Stratham community tradition. Lights 4 Lives is so grateful for the support they receive from friends and businesses in the Stratham community and beyond.
